Jay, I've strayed so far from the X-Kilt instructions at this point that it isn't really fair to call it that. It's my own flavor of kilt, incorporating X-Kilt, trad techniques from Barb's book, and some tips I picked up from Steve Ashton. It is nowhere near the quality of a Freedom kilt, but for hiking and knocking about, it works well. I can bang one out in about 7 hours. The aprons are indeed full width, and the pleats are regular knife pleats rather than box pleats.

Going into the woods with regular kilt pins is asking for trouble, so I took a page from the new military uniforms and put a patch of loop-side Velcro on the over apron. I use a hot glue gun to add hook-side Velcro to the back of whatever I want to use as a "kilt pin".
