$248 is not a bad price for a quality leather jacket.
I wouldn't buy a new leather jacket for less than that. With leather garments, just as in a kilt purchase, you usually get what you pay for.
Just because a garment is labeled “genuine leather” does not mean it is good quality leather. Cheap, cardboard leather will crack, tear and end up in the garage sale pile. A good quality leather jacket will last a life time. (If taken care of properly.)
