Well! I fully support the right to kilt Bears.
From my experience out here in the desert during the rainy part of the summer season, it is the part of the kilt above the hips that causes any heat discomfort. With a traditional, non-pillow-butt kilt this is partly from wearing the kilt over the shirt. There's not much you can do about that, but then putting a thick leather belt over that same area compounds the problem.
Other than wearing a jeans cut, contemporary with the shirt out, there's not too much you can do. I am guilty of wearing sandals with my canvas kilt and an open hawaiian shirt over a T-shirt, though.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…
Yes, I have squirrels in my brain…

I never kilt me a bear- I don't hunt.

Casual Kilt (PV)
Short sleeve shirt
Hiking boots
Socks rolled down
But then I don't live in a humid area.

Get back here ya overgrown sporran!
Don't know why that line just popped in my head!
Humidity runs high here in South Arkansas, but I dont have much experience wearing a kilt in it, yet. I was comfortable in the light-weight short-sleaved button-up (too many hyphens) last week on vacation, but it was a cooler than usual day with relatively low humidity.

I said that to my cat once, and my wife threatened to divorce me.

We can get fairly humid here in NE Ohio, thanks to Lake Erie.
I don't have any problems from the kilt, but the hose -- those can get me. Luckily, m'Lady managed to find me some fairly high grey athletic socks that don't look too bad with the kilted look. I find they wick enough moisture away to be really comfy and I can fold them down when traveling.
Since I tend to break out in rashes from pretty much any green plant touching me, going hose/sockless isn't an option.
