    Help identifying Tartan

I'm posting for a friend. His last name is Knox.

Any history on this tartan would be greatly appreciated since his brother is trying to gather some info for his kids.

The Knox Tartan you show a picture of is listed with the Scottish Tartans Authority as #7555 and carries a date of Feb. 1998.

Here are the notes on the Tartan.

Based on the MacFarlane (with whom Knox was associated) and designed by Keith Lumsden when with the Scottish Tartans Society for a Mr D L Knox of Lancashire. (details from Keith Lumsden 20.3.2008).

It is listed as a personal Tartan so may be copyrighted although the Authority does not say it is.I know of no weaver currently carrying this Tartan as a stock pattern so it would need to be a special weave.there is a second and third Knox Tartans listed
    The second is #5711.

The original Scottish Tartans Society entry at #2516 (original Scottish Tartans Authority reference) says that this was seen on a tea towel during the tartan exhibit at Convergence 1998. This version here (#5711, original Scottish Tartans Authority reference) appears in 'Tartans' by Johnston/Smith 1999 and is the more believable as a tartan design.

And the third is listed as #2516

Seen on a tea towel during the tartan exhibit at Convergence 1998. See also #5711 (original Scottish Tartans Authority reference) which appears in 'Tartans' by Johnston/Smith 1999. #5711 (original Scottish Tartans Authority reference) is the more believable. Scottish Tartans Society say designed by Keith Lumsden for Douglas Knox
