Oh Great!!! Another thing to add to my Jo-Ann's list which is all ready longer than my "bucket list".

I'd have to check my dad's attic; but I would bet my Boy Scout garters and flashes are still up there.

I have a set of four colors I bought from a ebay store in the UK, thats like these... I found them while searching for shooting socks.. I really like them... they look like traditional garters, but are actually flashes.. just like the old boy scout ones.. the set I have came with a set of red, yellow, blue, and green... they carried another set in older style colors too..
If I can find the store... I'll post the link... they are actually reasonable in price.. even with shipping from the UK.

Several months ago I got a length of webbing at Jo Ann's, cut it in two and have been using it for wrap-around, old fashioned garters. They work quite well, though they tended to come loose over the course of a day, so I wrap them around my leg only once, tied a four in hand knot---just like you would a neck tie---slide them as tight as is comfortable, and they stay up all day.

I frayed the ends, and like that look.

So is there any reason why longer ones couldn't be used like traditional tied garters?

I've actually done just that. I have an oatmeal and a navy pair that work pretty well. The "knot" at the cross over is a little thick, but they do okay.

    Red face

I have a green pair (between lovat & olive) and a blue/white diced pair that I made
from some 1 1/2 inch webbing that I found at a local fabric store. Just freyed
(or worsted) the ends and they look great. I just love the ingenuity that this
    forum generates !!

Yes, I have not found a good way to tie this webbing. It makes too thick a tie if done the traditional way.

I am intrigued by Gilmore's suggestion (post above), and I will have to try it next time I get a yard or so of webbing.

For each flash, I used 12" of material, frayed at each end, looped over, and tacked.
