Just looked at the web pages for Celtic Fest...

...those of you that are going on Saturday may get the better of the two days of Highland Games. My observation has been that the somewhat more seasoned athletes are there on Saturday. Could be wrong on this but seems to have been that way the past couple of years.

But I noticed that they're going to have Mike Houlihan at the Celtic Cultural Tent at five PM on Sunday. Mike is a local writer and comedian and has only gotten funnier as he's gotten older. One of his one man shows is titled "Going East On Ashland", Ashland being a street here in Chicago that only runs North to South...hence Going East On Ashland is a euphemism for being so intoxicated that you're blithely doing the impossible. Just a plug for a really funny guy.

I also note that they're not doing the Friday night kickoff session at the Cultural Center downtown...a shame because these were very well attended and gave some of the better bands a chance to do a little preview. I personally will most likely be doing my own little kickoff party downtown on Friday night as I usually stop a a couple of spots there to have a couple of cocktails with my dear mom. (Most of my contemporaries have, for whatever reasons, given up going out for beers...my dear mother, however, still gets together with several of her old friends from work to have a couple of snorts on Friday evenings and has been kind enough to let her number one son tag along.) I expect that I'll have to wear the kilt and that will fer sure really set my mom off because she's totally convinced that this is going to embarrass her. Oh well...

So who's planning on being at Celtic Fest on Sunday?

Best
