Here's my 'cure' for kilted shyness...
Get dressed up--know that you look great. Head off to the nearest and best flower shop. Buy a dozen roses (or your partner's favorite flowers) Tell the people at the flower shop who they are for. You'll get tons of good feedback ;-)
Then... (if you drink/go to pubs/bars) Take the flowers into the pub...walk up to the bar, order your medicine...enjoy it. Chances are you'll be asked about the flowers and the kilt. If you can wear a kilt and carry flowers into a pub (and handle any chit-chat that insues) you're ready to handle anything.
You get a kilted outing, admiration from women for buying flowers, a good drink at the pub AND your partner gets a fresh buquet of flowers--sounds like a fairly GOOD day, doesn't it?
