That is interesting as Paul is in Scotland, and the kilt makers response does seem to confirm that more or less the boxpleat, for civilian wear, is generally unknown here these days and is regarded a irrelevant here------ certainly by the kilt maker(s) and their present day customers anyway. Apart from Paul that is!

Well, that’s a beginning ! I think Paul should be encouraged.
The right to vote and many other things were irrelevant a few years back.
All you needed is one person with a dream (the music should start here), and from this dream, hope, freedom, extra cheese on the pizzas and payed holidays became a reality for all free men and women...

I'll support box pleats and extra cheese on pizza any time.

In a democracy it's your vote that counts; in feudalism, it's your Count that votes.

Having seen at close hand a so called 5 yard box pleat kilt, and compared its build, swish and sway to a handcrafted 8 yard knife pleat...............
I am with Jock on this one

Hmmm. Have you ever seen the swish of a 7 yards Double Box Pleated kilt ?
But none of this ! The important thing isn't to just go swishing around now is it ? You may prefer a knife pleated kilt and this is perfectly all right.
But to deny the charm, the elegance, the stylishness and the sophistication of the Box Pleated kilt family is a very , very personal, subjective and risky choice.
Nonetheless if you wish to close your borders to the invasion of Box and Double Box kilts, , well, I'm afraid it will have the "Parmentier effect". Who doesn’t eat potatoes today ?
If something is depreciated for bad reasons, chances are it will become an uncontrollable trend that will develop into a movement and ultimately tomorrow’s tradition .
Look what brought the prohibition of the tartan ! A tidal wave.
Best,
Robert

I can make two 4-yard box-pleated kilts for the same cost as one 8-yard knife pleated kilt. Box-pleated kilts are balanced and a pleasure to wear; cool enough for summer and warm enough for winter. I don't have to crank down on the straps just to keep the ponderous mass of 8 yards of wool from obeying the laws of gravity when I walk. When I sit down I don't feel like I'm perched on a stadium blanket.
