John, I so agree with you. Normal, short 't-----r' socks worn with the kilt just make me cringe. Kilt hose worn scrunched (or rolled) down are a different matter altogether and are perfectly acceptable when worn with boots, but not shoes. It's all down to what I call Visual Balance really ..... for those who do not know me, I'll explain that in detail later.
