Jacket Conversion in an Afternoon

I am considering facing my sewingmachinephobia (one word, legitimate, really) and doing this to a goodwill jacket.

The first of what may be a Monty Python sewing skit: I saw that you measured up six inches from the bottom of the jacket. Is this proportional to the over all length, or where the hem should fall to the wearer?

This is where the hem should fall for the wearer. It helps if you have someone else to measure and mark the jacket while you are wearing it over a kilt.

How could he resist? It's got his name written all over it! And not made in China, either. Kudos to that.

Well, it's got my name all over it, anyway (I'm a she! ).
