Here is my Ren Faire great kilt. I found five yards of my "weathered saffron" left in the sewing pile. It has some flaws, but I just let them work for me. I did sew in the pleats; one line of stitching with a piece of old trade show lanyard on the inside. I used the tape to make it easier to undo if I ever chose to, but it also makes a good reference line for lining up the waist and the aprons. All the layers and the weight pulling the fabric back did break a needle along the way.

Tempest played the closing night concert at the Faire this year, Scooby went off to spar with another young swordsman leaving me with all the bagage. I let out the roll on the right hip, hung his bag over my left shoulder and pinned the excess fabric up around it to contain it while we danced around the jousting ground. I also let the folded back fabric on the left shoulder fall back down my arm and was comfortable in the cool of the evening.

I found that putting in 5 deep pleats worked a lot better than 10 shallow ones.

The deep ones stayed pleated when I finished belting the plaid round myself and standing up.

For those interested in the end result of this project take a look at this thread with our finished Halloween costumes

My thanks for all the help and constructive criticism offered!

I couldn't have done it without you all

    Cheers
