Great to make your acquaintance!
I am in a similar situation... Fortunately, my wife started fancieing sarees several years before I set my sights on taking up the kilt... We have yet to appear together in our respective 'unconventional garb' but I have no inhibition about it. It's too bad sarees aren't particularly warm (or available in warm fabrics AFAIK), so, up here in Canada I don't get to see her in them as often as I'd like: they're really flattering on her!
The spirit of the Declaration of Arbroath (6 April 1320) abides today, defiantly resisting any tyranny that would disarm, disperse and despoil proud people of just morals, determined to keep the means of protecting their families and way of life close at hand.

Sounds like a winning compromise.

How about "Hunting Stewart" as worn formerly (al-be-it as trews) by the Calcutta Scottish and the Bombay Volunteer Rifles. The subdued shades of the weathered variant Hunting Stewart would work well standing next to a sari I reckon. Not to mention the appropriate Indian connection.

I felt obligated to buy a couple of kurtas to wear when my wife dons her saris. Fortunately, I just found out we have a company function to attend Saturday night, so they won't gather dust.
One other thing with the Kurtas, if you get them cut right they work as wonderful kilt shirts... I had several made while I was there that are cut about 3 inches above the knee.... They work wonderfully!

Did you get a chance to check out a lungi/sarong? Many do come in a plaid/tartan like print. Quite comfortable as well.

She bought four saris.
Congratulations to both of you. She for her new acquisitions and you on your upcoming purchase.

I like the idea, but I've already got a kilt in MacLeod Hunting, and the two are so similar that it would seem redundant. Good idea, though. Any other Scottish troops that served in India that might have a tartan worth considering?
