Well, it was understandable I guess. He came down from Jackson (he had done the same thing the weekend before for my mother-in-law's funeral, but was in a kilt that time) and had to get back immediately afterward because of something his granddaughter was doing. So getting all kilted up and changing afterward would have taken too long.
It was still an awesome graveside service though because my FIL was a veteran so we had buglers there too and they joined in on Amazing Grace and then played Taps and did the gun salute.
Wool is an amazing material that keeps itself clean and odor-free fairly well, so just letting wool hose air out between uses usually does the trick and washing them when they get muddy or start to smell is the usual regime I take with ours.
The ones with acrylic mixed in require washing a bit more often. The more acrylic, the more often they'll need washed.
I put baby power (you can use foot powder but baby powder is the same thing but cheaper) in my hubby's shoes when he's going to be doing something really sweaty or be on his feet a lot...

Have you ever stood close enough to a goat to get a good whiff? Not exactly odor-free!

Well at The Worlds they have a Dress and Deportment judge and give out awards for that.
Beyond that, piping judges and drumming judges sometimes do comment on a band's dress despite the fact that, officially at least, the band's dress is not being judged.
A band who attended a recent Worlds found comments on their scoresheets about wrinkly kit. A band around here, years ago, who didn't wear any sort of headgear found "hats would be nice" written on one of their scoresheets.
Whether judges comment on a band's dress or not, it's fairly widely accepted that the way a band looks sends out clear signals to the judges and other experienced pipe band watchers about the way a band will sound.
When this was dicussed on a pipe band forum a while back several people claimed that a band's sound could NOT be judged from their appearance, while I and others maintained that any experienced pipe band person could accurately judge a band's playing quality by sight alone.
To test this I posted photos of a noncompetition "street band", a competition grade 4 band, and a competition grade 2 band, and every person who guessed each band's level did so correctly. (The guessers had never actually heard any of the bands and had no knowledge of those bands beyond the photos I provided.)

Tomorrow being Saturday, I was going to head to the Duke of Perth to hang out with the Saturday afternoon (unkilted) crowd and I had been toying with the idea of wearing the kilt....but, Greg, your good example has proven to be the tipping point...I will fer sure toss on the kilt.

Oh my God this made me laugh!! You are very correct!! My wife and I once lived back on a dirt road where the owner of the little apartment we lived in had a pet goat that would drag his house around behind him whereever he pleased....he never roamed too far, but his house would typically be somewhere different when I came home at night than it was when I left in the morning for work. Anyways...we owned a Chevy Cavalier at the time...everytime we turned it on, the air blowing from the vents smelled like goat for the first 10 seconds. Even after we changed the air filter and had moved away...the goat was still with us!

Greg,
The wearing of a jumper with the kilt is always a good sight. The colour coordination does not have to be so fussy.
Lookin' gud
