I would agree that SKs (especially the "Ultimate" model) are in rather a different category than SWKs. The Ultimate SK attracted my attention awhile ago precisely because of it's contemporary style and availability in tartan... my kilt inspector does not approve of the sight of me in non-tartan.

For comparison, I would say the Ultimate SK would be similar in appearance to a Bilt Kilt tartan model http://www.biltkilt.com/kilts-tartan-kilts-c-13_19.html Both are machine sewn to custom size, feature a smaller number of larger pleats, and have cargo pockets. The price tag is lower on the SK because it isn't wool, which is probably appealing in a hack-around kilt.
