What is a good starter sporran?
Okay, so I am pretty sure that this topic has been covered somewhere by somebody, but I was just wondering what your recommendations would be for a good first sporran. I don't have a huge budget (meaning something under 100 bucks would be perfect!) Any suggestions?

Buzz Kidder has quite a few choices, all of them under $100.00

Also, one of my favorite makers is Janet Eagleton and I believe some of her simpler leather sporrans could be in your budget range.

I second KFCarter's suggestion of a Buzz Kidder sporran.
They are well made, large, durable, handsome and will last you for years.

I would agree with the buzz kidder. I don't have one, but I have seen plenty of them. They have a nice soft feel and plenty of room to carry everything you need. They come in several styles. A few of our vendors carry them. Price range is between $55 and $65. They come in either brown or black.

Another vote for Buzz Kidder. Can't be beat at the price. The only thing I would suggest is to get a leather strap rather than a chain strap.

I like the SWK Nightstalker sporran, with the lather strap... a very roomy and organized sporran...very utilitarian.

I guess that would depend which type of sporran you want. Everyone seams to like the buzz sporrans. I prefer to make them myself. Not for everyone though.

For a first sporran, I would also recommend the Nightstalker. It makes for an easier transition if one is used to having several pockets.

I would recommend that you go with a good leather sporran--avoid the cheapies just for the sake of a few bucks. the Buzz Kidders are fine, but I personally would rather see you purchase a good quality leather day sporran in brown. (I assume that you will mostly be wearing it during daytime activities and not for very dressy evening affairs.)
The Eagleton is always a good choice as are other makers of quality sporrans. A very plain pouch type is the best. I would avoid overly ornate models or sporrans that look too much like a back pack worn backwards. They hold a lot, but you will look a bit strange. Less is more in normal dress.
If you find a good, reliable supplier like the Tartans Museum gift shop, you can choose a good quality sporran. I would strongly recommend that you try a few on in person before spending a lot money.

Thanks for the great ideas guys! I really like the Buzz Kidder sporrans a lot, and they are definitely the right price.
I have considered making my own because I love doing things with my hands, but I just don't have the time right now while I am in school (Although I do have an old fur coat that my grandmother gave me because it is a little torn up, are you thinking what I'm thinking )
I agree with thescot that I should get a nice plain sporran for my first one, and I am definitely going to check out a few of the places that he suggested.
So, I guess my next question would be, what color? I know thescot suggested brown, but would it be improper to wear a black sporran in a casual setting?
Thanks for all you help so far!
