Regards,
Rex.
I believe he is still performing, Rex, but the early '80s was about the time he was at his peak here in the United Kingdom. That was when popular music was bearable - nowadays it's mostly nothing more than noise (or is that my senility showing itself again?!!).
Take care,
Ham.

In this thread, I clicked away the instant the YouTube page launched and I could see what it was, but even though I didn't hear note one of the song, it is now currently on a loop in my brain.
There was a time a year ago or so that it happened with such frequency that it was obnoxious. I think the fad has died down to the point that a well-placed RickRoll (that's what it's called; in verb form: to be RickRolled) is actually kind of funny again.
Many thanks for the explanation, Carlb. Well this is the first I have heard of this practice and, hopefully, I'll not hear of it again! Practical jokes were never my 'thing'.
Take care,
Ham.
[PS: The song certainly took me back though!]

Naah two good antidotes: click out and immediately follow with Nirvana "Smells like teen spirit" or Steve Earle's "Jerusalem."
I'll just bet "Highland cathedral" would work, too!

Oh, well. I put it down to fast approaching senility.

That's alright, Ham. I just had unexpected free time and I decided to prank Xmarks. Internet is a funny place sometimes.

Since the URL goes to a redirect my browser stops it and gives me a screen to authorize the new location. It never gets there.\ Probably what killed the fad.
