    Scotweb design-a-tartan purchase question

My brother and I have been using the Scotweb design a tartan feature to make a family tartan to have some kilts made for family members. Has anyone done this before? What is the quality of the material and of the kilts?

Also I'm loving the 10% xmarks discount and I'm thinking of springing for the new set of McCallum bagpipes I've wanted for a while (at a great discount). Does anyone know if I could have a bagpipe bag made out of the custom tartan?

I can't speak to the kilts, though others have and I can't recall any complaints. You might want to peruse the Scotweb sub-forum here on XMTS for words of praise or concern.

As for the resulting fabric, I couldn't be happier with it.

If you order the minimum yardage (or meterage, I suppose), I don't doubt that you'd have enough left over for a cover for your pipes' bag from what's left over from your kilt.

As for who would make such a thing, well, you'll have to consult the pipers.

    Regards,
    Rex.

I recently made a similar enquiry about having a new tartan woven through scotweb, and was quoted £57 a yard. After contacting a mill directly, I was given the price of £32 a yard, so a finished kilt works out cheaper than the cost of the scotweb material only.
My advice is that it pays to shop around.
This was for a self designed tartan, not one designed via scotweb, but registered with the tartan registry.
