I've never worn anythign but knife, but I've seen lots of pictures. Knife pleats seem to have the most "swish" to my eye....which, of course, adds to the "swagger".....which is half the reason we wear these things right?

I have two 4 yd box pleats, with one on order. I wanted the box pleat, originally, because it was different, but still a historically traditional kilt. I like the way they are usually pleated to the stripe.. on my Leatherneck, it looks good, LOL.. my Saffron is hard to tell its pleated to the stripe...LOL
My kilt on order, has a military background, and I originally had made the order as a knife pleat, but wanted to avoid the military look of the kilt, so I changed the order...
I plan on getting another kilt, one day. A tank in my beloved Leatherneck.. either the knife pleat or military box pleat.. we will see, which one will win out.

I had to put in a vote for the Kingussie style, if for no other reason, so it wouldn't have to remain unrepresented and unloved.
Seriously though, I love the look of them and the fact that you don't see them often. I have an 8 yard knife pleated tank, the Kingussie, and a 4 yard box pleat (which doesn't fit right now, and is waiting to be sold and replaced with a new one).
The box pleat is a close second, and realistically, I'll likely stick to box pleated affairs for the rest of my days (with a possible 5 yard knife pleat thrown in, eventually); the decreased yardage, economic advantage, and general comfort and coolness factors rule with me.

My tank is knife pleated to the sett (my great kilt is pleated to the stripe, or sett, and sometimes both.) Although, my next kilt will be one of Lady Chrystel's double box kilts.

Personally, I prefer the knife pleat, same reasons as the other guys.

I voted knife, I've made two knife and four box pleat(Xkilts). I had thought of making a kingusie, but have decided I wanted the flexibility of the single direction pleats offered by the knife pleating.

I like the swing of the knife pleat - it swings far better than the box, and since I like knife pleated kilts pleated to the stripe, they show well when walking.
However, for comfort when wearing a kilt all day, I prefer the box pleat as there is less fabric in the back. The overall weight is distributed and balanced better around the waist. A box pleat is more comfortable while driving. I haven't really noticed that much difference in weight between my four yard box (from Matt Newcome) and 6 yard double box (from Lady Chrystel).
But as I said, I don't really have a preference and tend to choose what kilt to wear based on the tartan and not the pleats.
