    Pleats, Pleats, Pleats!

    Hello Fellow Kilted

Well I was just thinking (yes that hurt) with all the various pleat styles out there which ones do you prefer for comfort, durabiltiy, and ease of care? Does a Box Pleat fair better than the knife pleat? How about direction as I have seen some casual kilts pleated from right to left rather than left to right (I understand that there is some historical prescedance for that style). Would you rather have a shallow or deep pleat?

How about it? I'm looking forward to hearing your thoughts and preferences.

    Thanks to all!

    Slainte'

    Bill

    Hello Bill
I can't give information of other forms of pleating as I am pretty much settled on the Reverse Kingussie for style, and having tried various options I find that small pleats are not all that easy to keep neat, and very deep ones - except for the under apron ones, can add weight without adding much to the swing of the kilt.

I found that 7 to 9 inches per knife pleat - the average measurement of the sett of quite a few tartans - gives the right sort of movement.

There are quite a few roads around here which have streetlamps which throw a good shadow for assessing pleat swing - yes I know - sad, isn't it - but it is a rather difficult thing to see any other way.

I don't find that one side of the RK kilt is easier to wear or care for - they being mirror images, but I am fairly ambidexterous so that might negate the handedness of the folding.

No I had not. Please excuse the redundency of this thread. Just chalk it up to my being inactive for some time and newly back.

    Thank-you for the link.
