While I do support Colonel Barfoot, I want to point out, before this gets a political spin is that it is not political. Apparently, there is something in an agreement with "The Homeowner's Association" which says that the sub-division residents can't have a flag pole. American flags are allowed, but only those small ones on the slanted poles attached to the house.However, I do think that, considering who the resident is(A living Medal of Honor recipient) the Homeowners Association should allow it.

Personally, I think he should be allowed to have the flag and pole. Too many HOAs have that rule which, to me, should not be.

NOW, on the HOA side... When you purchase a house where there is an HOA, you have the rules/bylaws or whatever that HOA calls them. You know in advance and have the chance at that time to NOT purchase the house. The HOA has those rules to keep the neighborhood looking good, houses similar in upkeep and house pricing at it's best.

I do agree with you that HOA should allow Colonel Barfoot to display his flag. However, after doing a little research into the laws if I read it correctly which I might not have, the HOA might be in violation of federal law specifically Chapter 1 section 3 and 4 of the US code and HR 42.
