Oh, fer you-know-who's sake...this really just goes to show what kind of idiots the ad agencies are hiring these days. This was probably dreamed up by the same herd of doofi that came up with that "Damn right, your dad drank it" campaign that Canadian Club whisky ran...

...just a link for those who might live outside of the "target" area for these rather unintentionally laughable ads. Pity, though, because the old band roadie, Guy Shastaign, and I used to sit at the bar at Orphan's here and shoot CC down like crazy so I have a rather soft spot in my heart for it. But I digress...as usual...

Sadly, a whole lot of people seem to respond to this sort of BS that's aimed directly at their insecurities..."Gee...my life is so confused...it was so much easier in the Good Old Days when men were men (or women were women, if you happen to be a woman)..." So that's supposed to make me go out and buy a pair of baggy-assed pants? Who are they trying to kid?

And if anybody is worried about trouser tightness and one's ability to attract women and procreate...judging by all of the rugrats running around my neighborhood it doesn't seem to have been THAT much of a problem up until now and I doubt that a change of pants is going to have much of an impact.

I've never had much love for Dockers anyway...they're just the pants that the middle class has to put on when they can't wear jeans to work. Part of that phenomena that my wife once observed that they look like they're wearing their father's clothes to work and they just don't fit right...

I think this ad is attacking the latest male fashion trend. many 16 - 25 years old are wearing skinny jeans, tight t-shirt, scarfs and pretty colours. The trend is to learn and intimate the female counterparts. Men wearing tights for fashion could be one heart beat away.

Dockers are trying to get this group of fashion 'victims' to buy in to the next trend.

Oh...you should have seen some of the "hair band" types that we used to encounter around here back in the Eighties...tights would have been an improvement.

As a marketing campaign, it's brilliant. Albeit risky...

Why should they care if they offend women? They're trying to sell pants to men. They're probably banking on the fact that their ads will cause a lot of men to feel 'unmanly' and emasculated, and they'll rush out to buy new pants from a company that seems to stand for manliness. A simple ad campaign on manliness wouldn't turn any heads unless it simultaneously made a bold statement to separate men from women.

Personally, I think the idea of one's manliness being defined by soft pants is absurd (and desperate). But you have to admit, the "unwashed masses" out there will fall for almost any line of advertising. Anything that is advertised to make people feel sexier or more confident is a sure seller.

Hm, when I think Dockers I don't think manliness... They are hurting, so is everybody else right now. Maybe they thought, "Hey, it helped Burger King sell more Burgers by convincing 'manly men' that real men need real burgers, perhaps it will work for pants!" Best of luck to them...
