I have a couple of different "standard" dress sporrans, and two fox mask sporrans that I would probably defer to for formal wear in lieu of a horsehair sporran, myself. I just don't think I could get used to looking down at a "ZZ Top" full mask sporran in my lap at a formal dinner party. The regular fox mask sporrans are unusual enough.
I do think they look great on pipers, the miliitary units, and even on many other forum members in their photos. I just think with my height the added verticality of a horehair sporran would be more comical. The angora ones look great, too, and would probably be less of an issue, but I think I am set for now, unless I find something really special.
