As A Fellow Neophyte
....I am fairly new to kilting as well, but I would ditch the sporran chain. I got a chain "free" with my first sporran. I had read a few threads about how the chain can rub and wear on the kilt. On one of the first occassion wearing it I had it on for more than 12 hours. No damage was done, but I could definitely see where people were coming from. I have a nice pair of sporran hangers now for day to day use, and will be getting a leather sporran belt with a nicer sporran (with a hand tooled Irish harp) I plan on ordering post Christmas.....
