If you have 7.9 yards left over, isn't that enough fabric left for a box-pleated kilt and a half-plaid?
Half plaid? I have a similar sized remnant in Murry of Atholl. What exactly is a 'half plaid'?

I like it Josh....it's got all of the colors from the tartan...just no vertical stripes. By the way...did you see my pics I posted with your masterpiece?

Joining pieces is not all that difficult - honest.

I have done it for various kilts, admittedly some entirely or partly on the sewing machine, but others all by hand.

As long as you can match up the pieces so as to have the horizontal bands matching, and fold in the upper piece to make a decent sized pleat - or even make a perfect match so you can just machine sew the pieces together at what would have been the fold from the lower edge up to the fell, then do any shaping, cutting away etc above that, just as thought it was a normal pleat.

It is extra work, but if it turns two or thre bits of spare material into a kilt then for me it is well worth the time and effort.

What a wonderful universal tartan Skye is! Do we get to see a picture of the finished project?
