I was 52, my wife and I had returned from a trip to London and Scotland and I wanted something appropriate for a formal. Now I am active in our local Scottish Heritage Society and have enjoyed getting into our family history and how we came to be here...
I guess I was about 11 years old when I first donned the kilt. I wore it when playing the pipes back then. I gave up both the pipes and the kilt. When my twin brother was married in 2002 when I was 36 we all wore the kilt (we rented). That night I commented "Why haven't I done this before?" Then I guess it was about 2005 at the age of 39 that I started wearing the kilt a few times a week to work building it up to everyday wear.
somewhere in my teens I wore a braveheart costume once to a party, it wasn't a real kilt/great kilt but a cheap thing from a partyshop. Then at 27 I competed for the first timein the student highland games.again in a cheap partykilt, and decided I wanted one for real. It took me another two years. last december I wore my first real kilt. And now I'm hooked.
I have 4 meters of a fashion tartan at home to make my own kilt an X-kilt I think. And will order an other kilt when my pay cheque comes in.
When I was about 2 1/2 is the first time I know for sure I wore a Kilt. Here's a picture of me, my two sisters and some of the neighbours. My mum made all of the Kilted outfits for the girls and for me.
