I was thinking of the very same solution. Although some of us might find it hard to remove the Crown.

Several years ago someone around here (Piobear perhaps?) mentioned picking up a reproduction of the harp badge reportedly used by the Union Army's Irish Brigade at a National Battlefield gift shop that might do in a pinch. Instead of a slide or lugs, it had clutchbacks, if I remember correctly.

Indeed, Jock. I don't think I'd be comfortable with that myself.
I'm originally from London, and trace my family tree back to County Cork, now South of the border, via an Irish catholic that joined the Royal Navy, and also via the woman he married, who came from almost the same spot in Ireland.
I would not want to deface British military badges, and nor would I feel comfortable wearing any military insignia of any country, never having served. I also would not want to wear anything that could be seen as sectarian (either side).
I have a green shamrock badge on my caubeen. It's a bit small, but it is hard to find larger ones. However, you'll never see a shamrock badge with a crown on it!

First thing I thought of! The badge was a staybrite RIR one I had kicking about, however, the slide was positioned high on the badge so that any attempt to remove said crown would take the slide with it. Thought about an ACW Harp of Erin but I don't think it'd secure the hackle enough....
