Donald MacDonald, Kinagarry, Arisaig, photographed by Miss M E M Donaldson about 1900-1910.
He is dressed in tattered re-made garments representing the twilight of tartan as everyday wear of Highlanders
(from TARTAN by Hugh Cheape).

Radge, do you have any information on who did the 92nd Highlanders photo?
Looks like a classic Hill and Adamson photo, so I was wondering.

Yes it is, the photo only states the Regiment, year, and the locality I'm afraid. Incidentally Hill and Adamson's photo's have very few kilted subjects, most of which are military. Understandable I guess since their area of operations was mainly in and around Edinburgh.
Cheers.

Record Number LHG-1-33
Title: Douglas [Gilmour] and Netta [Gilmour] fishing.
Collection: Lady Gilmour
Image Type: full plate glass negative
Originator: Lady Henrietta Gilmour
Location: Fife, Scotland
Date: ca.1891
Description:
Two children fishing off rocky riverbank, the girl in summer dress and boater, with a net, boy in kilt and sporran, with rod.
Notes:
LHG-1-33 pc/
BIOG: Douglas Gilmour (1889-1916), the fifth and youngest son of the photographer and Sir John Gilmour, 1st baronet of Lundin and Montrave; died of wounds received in action during World War I. Seen with his sister, Henrietta (1884-1962), younger daughter of the family; married Robert Purvis of Gilmerton, youngest son of John Purvis of Kinaldy, in 1904.
It's been pointed out that there is a discrepancy between the date of the photo (ca.1891) & the apparent age of the child in the kilt. There is no way he's 2 yrs of age. A more likely guess would be around 6 yrs of age, putting the photo around ca.1897

Reason: Noticed apparent discrepancy in photo description.

I wish to apologize in advance for the watermarks that obscure some portions of the photos. I'll be hunting around for 'clean' versions, and replacing/editing these as (or if) I do.

If I'm not mistaken, he's wearing true cadadh, hose cut and sewn from the tartan cloth, not knit.
I also like the effect of using a different tartan for the waistcoat and kilt.
