Some people are newsworthy becasue of actions they themselves perform, others are newsworthy because of positions they hold in society, be it earned, inherited or granted. The fact remains that when one of these persons pops up on the radar, there is interest. Having such a person attend the games raises the profile of the Games, which is a good thing. You certainly have the right to not have an interest in the individual, but "to stuff it"?

You're not the only one, Jock. On behalf of my country, I apologise.

O.K, guys. This started out as a perfectly reasonable, interesting a decent post.
Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but it's simply not polite or decent to phrase your opinions in an insulting manner.

The original topic of this thread is about his visit. Let's keep it to that and maybe discuss pros and cons. As for political opinions, take them to PM.
I'd hate for this thread to get shut down because it's very interesting.

Correct me if I am wrong, but as I recall this is the same young prince that piloted helicopters off the stern of British cruisers to draw the Argentinean Exocet missiles from them in Falklands War.
My bonnet is off to him!

I believe that was his brother Andrew.

Actually it was Prince Edward's elder brother, Prince Andrew, the Duke of York who did that. Too damn right, he was as brave as anyone else in that war.

And it appears his nephew Prince Harry has taken up his mantle during his service in Afghanistan with the Blues & Royals, where he served as a Foward Air Controller, calling in air strikes with the USAF, and served with the Gurkhas.
