Vest and Kilt Review-2 for 1
Hey Gang-
I received my vests from NJ Piper today http://www.newjerseypiper.com/vests.html This is my review:
The vest is made in China, and is a light Polyester blend. Lets just get that out of the way. The buttons are from 3 feather pewter and are the squared lion buttons.
The vest is a traditional cut with an inside pocket and 2 front. While the vest is light, I'm actually EXTREMELY happy with it, because of the hot summers we get here, this could be worn without having to worry about over heating. These would be very comfortable if you are piping. The quality buttons balance out the vest and add some custom character (You have like 5 styles to choose from.) ALL -in all, I'm EXTREMELY happy with this vest and the cost. If you are a chronic vest wearer like myself, you should absolutely invest in a couple of these. I will be ordering a couple more in the coming days-
NOW-My 4 yard kilt pleated to "Skye's Fancy"-Finally got it pressed and am MUCH happier with it. The pleats are very deep, so there is a nice hold and swish. There is a definite difference between the feel of my 5 yard kilt vs. this one, but I'm actually liking how light it is. I'm wearing it all day today, so I'll update how it holds out.....I'm hopeful this will be a viable style for the hot summers here-I'll post a final review tonight and update this thread. HEre are the obligatory shots of the vest and kilt-

A fine looking outfit, sir! Is your vest the premium or standard style?
And again my compliments to your wee one on her pleating pattern!

nice! It really does give the illusion that there are more pleats there than there really are. Pretty cool!

I ordered a hunter green premium vest form this same company, which came today, too. I ordered a large, and it's too big, so I'm going to exchange it. These vests seem to run a bit large, for anyone who wants to order one.
I agree with what Josh has posted above about the vest, with the exception that I ordered some buttons from a different company which match the buttons on the vest I made myself before Christmas.

Looking good! The vest looks decent in the pic, but they seem very cheap up close. Perhaps after I exchange mine for one that fits I'll appreciate it more. (For those who are considering buying one, they run big. I got mine based on my chest measurement--if I was 8 months pregnant it might have fit ).

Is the back of the vest made of the same material as the front?

No. The front is the color, and the back (on mine, at least) is a different color, lighter-weight fabric. It feels like satin. And there's no adjustment strap on the back, like many store-bought vests have.

I purchased one of their reversable vests - like Josh, I really like wearing vests and the price was low enough I thought it at least worth a try.
I concurr with the other posters that the fabric is fairly low quality. I'm used to worsted wool vests, and this isn't in the same ball park at all in terms of quality, but I wasn't expecting it to be. The thinner fabric will be nice in the summer, no doubt.
I ordered a "L" which is what their sizing information indicated I would need, and the vest fits me just right. The back and front are made from the same materials. And, my wife thinks I look pretty handsome in it, so that's always a plus. :-)
Overall, I'm happy, especially considering I didn't spend an arm and a leg. I wouldn't recommend the company for someone who was overly concerned for quality. But if you are looking for a less-expensive vest for casual wear, it seems worth a shot.
