Ads visible on all pages at all times?

No - not here they aren't.

I don't know how to make a screen shot, but on the right side I can see as far as 'Personal M' of Personal Messages - if that is any help. There is an empty grey strip on the left hand side.

The top bar between 'user cp' and 'logout' is centrally placed on a grey background. The little strips of tartan look rather lost and lonely on the screen.

Hang on - whilst I was writing everything has done a sidestep to the left. Now I see the ads. But there is a bit missing from the left hand side - it reads 'oday', and the date, at least it does whilst I am in edit mode.

The ordinary page (I just checked) is narrower now, all on the screen.

I'm looking at it on a Mac with a screen of the old dimensions and it looks like it was designed for one of the newer screens with a wider aspect ratio...the right side of the screen is now cut off...this only happened before when someone posted a very wide photo.

The white background is positively blinding...I'm squinting trying to read the type and the type seems to be lighter than it was in the previous incarnation of the forum.

Everything's off-center for me. Have to scroll (or slide the bar) horizontally to see the entire page.

And... lose the pastels and go back to legible, please...!

Now for some reason I can't write or read the posts at all without my glasses.Just thought you would like to know and if something could be done, I for one would be grateful.
Jock, you are NOT a Luddite in this regard. I'm also having troubles. I need the text to be BLACK... Otherwise it's way too hard to read. See, the tartan background which ended up framing the whole screen also added some contrast, making it easier to look at. Now, I can't read for more than a couple minutes without my eyes getting tired -- it's like having a case of snow blindness. It's all too light colored.

With respect to advertising, that's Steve's thing... But being able to read the forum content properly and comfortably seems like it aught to have some degree of priority.

In the mean time, to at least HELP with making things more readable, could I ask people to highlight their entire text before hitting "Submit" and selecting the "black" color tag from the editing palette? It will make your post SO much easier for some of us to read.

    Thanks.

P.S. As an added tip to Jock Scott, do you realize that you can actually increase the size of all the text on the page in your browser? Depending on which browser you are using, you can do it from the "View" menu at the top, or as a keyboard shortcut. On my Mac it's Command-"+" for bigger and Command "-" for smaller. On a PC it would probably be "Ctrl" or "Alt" I imagine.

Is it just me or has everything on the page faded? Maybe next time you wash the forum, use less bleach. I miss the tartan background, too. The tartan title bars seem too busy to read easily. The header photo is excellent. Does the above line of text seem really, really, really long to you? Maybe the default length could be trimmed.
How about a larger default font? I don't like reading with my nose above the spacebar.

Other than those few things, everything seems fine.

Oh, I get it. The line length is 3 km. long only when you are previewing the post. Once you post, it is trimmed to the proper length.
    Never mind.

I also see the ads in the XMarks Partners area as wider than the window instead of auto-resizing. The boxes appear to be the same size, they're just wider than the window allows.

I also have an issue with the forum centering when reading the thread. I have to move the bottom scroll bar to the left to catch all of the text.

Plus, the default colors do make it difficult to read the text. Dark gray text on an off-white background overlaid on a white background with gray borders is not easy for the eyes to deal with. There's just not enough visual contrast.

I agree with Kiltshot that the tartan title bars are too busy to easily read the text they contain. There's not enough contrast with the white/gray lines in the tartan to distinguish some of the vertical lines of the white text. If the text were red it might work better, but some people are color-blind and won't see the text at all then.

FWIW, I'm using Internet Explorer Version 7.0(.5730.13). Screen resolution set at 1024 x 768 pixels on a 15" LCD monitor.

I'm reading on my 14.1 ibook screen and I have the same problem. I like my browser window to be 2/3 of my screen so I can easily access Adium as I work. Yes I uses spaces, I have Adium open in all my spaces for when I change between them

I do have a newer wide screen, so all the ads are there and everything is laid out correctly. My gripe is with the plain, ugly look this forum now has. As others have said, I'm blinded by the light! And the first person to write "turn your screen brightness down" is going to get a angry PM from me. The letters are not black and the background is very bright, which is why, KiltShot, everything looks faded and is hard to read. As AA said, it's "positively blinding."
