from a Kiwi who passed though Aden in Feb 1967 and well remembers Mad Mitch and the great job the A&SH did in Crater that year.

    Follow up

    Tommy,
I'm currently serving in the 10th Mountain Division...just got back from Afghanistan the day after Christmas...from my third tour there. The 10th is not my home, however. I'm a Civil Affairs officer (a Major, to be precise) currently serving in a staff assignment...my "home" is Fort Bragg, North Carolina, which is the home of Army Special Operations...and Civil Affairs is a special ops branch (I believe you chaps refer to them as CIMIC or something of the sort).

My brigade just served under the 82d Airborne Division Headquarters in Afghanistan...and after spending 7 months with them, I can only apologize for your experiences in 2004!! The 82d is kinda like the Royal Navy...they have their own "way" of doing things. To each their own...I've never been in the 82d, but I've heard it said by many that it's a good place to be from, not a good place to be (meaning they have high standards and a great legacy, but life there is hell).

Hello and welcome from Texas and a "former" US Marine... a transplanted Brit, originally from Suffolk.
