I had the same problem on a kilt I ordered from B&S about a year ago...

Not being real tall (5'7"), I couldn't use the website to order the kilt, as they didn't have a length short enough to make the kilt the proper length including the rise. I called and spoke with someone there and explained that I wanted the kilt to be 22" from the top of the apron to the bottom of the selvedge edge, and they said no problem. So, I typed up and email and was very explicit about the OVERALL length of the kilt and placed my order. I then received a confirmation for 22" + 2" rise. I emailed back and subsequently received a corrected confirmation for a 22" total length.

Unfortunately, when I received the kilt, it was 22" + a 2" rise!

I contacted B&S and told them that the kilt was too long and that I didn't want it to be hemmed, as I wanted the selvedge edge. After a bit of investigating about what happened on their end, I received an apologetic email informing me that they would be remaking the kilt to the correct measurements. They even sent me a check to cover the cost of the return shipment.

I wish their system of inputting measurements was a bit less confusing, as I know of at least one other on the forum who has received a too-long kilt.

That being said, however, B&S certainly handled the situation in such a way that would make me want to do business with them again. And did I mention that the kilt is great too?
