Magnetic Clasps are best.
I don't like the snap closures at all. As Ted mentioned, you have to get it lined up exactly, then press firmly and you are never quite sure if it catches.
When I started making my own sporrans, I went with magnetic catches. They close easily when properly aligned in the making, and I've never had one fail under normal circumstances. Even if it would come open, the larger flap I use (because I decorate the front flap) usually keeps things inside.
Only problem I've heard from those who have one of mine is the male part on the inside of the front flap comes loose. I'm looking for a better cement.
I've also put some "turn lock" clasps on some sporrans. These are more secure initially, but they can fall apart, I'm afraid, so I don't normally use them unless someone asks.
Anyway, my vote is for magnetic clasps.
