I often drive past the Angel of the North but I have never stopped for a closer look. From what I have seen of it, it looks like a rusty glider which got embedded nose first in the ground.
Cheers Alex.
We were in Beamish from just after it opened until just before they threw us out (last car out the car park). The other bits were incidentals.
The Angel is well worth a 15 minute stop next time you're passing. I was talking to a Geordie the other week and I mentioned that by all accounts, it's supposedly thought of as a hideous eyesore by the people of the North East. "Oh not anymore" he replied. "It's ours and it grows on you. Everybody loves it now". Don't know how true that is but I know that it blows me away everytime I get up-close and personal. It really is an awesome thing.
