I did look at Lochcarron, but the samples are so small. I can really get the big picture of a kilt with those small patches. About the weight, I could only find modern and ancient in medium weight. On the other hand, I will most likely get a strome (the heavier the better).
My Kilt (in the Ancient colours) is heavy-weight 16oz and the price was better than for lighterweights. It was from Hector Russell (and I've just checked but they are no longer on special of 199GBP, but still cheaper than a mediumweight). They were good to deal with, although they got a bit confused about the delivery date, and had to change where they sent it (I was attending a wedding in another country), but they did this without any quips. I also like the partlicular colours in their kilt, quite different to the Lochcarron.
