Great job. Thanks for posting it.
I think I'll make a black one. Have some Fiebings (sp?) leather dye which usually works well.

Good job, Robert!
If the 'Rit' is any bother, another time you could try Fiebing's leather dye.
It comes in tan and mid and dark brown as well as lots of other colours.
I've even used it on homemade gunstocks and such, and it'll dye maple a lovely red-ish brown, just like you want to see on a long-rifle!
best,
Richard.

Thanks, y'all.
Tobus: Yeah, I am a little concerned about that. I burnished the inside of the belt a lot to rub off as much off the RIT from the inside of the belt as possible, but I'll make sure to keep an eye on it in case it starts to rub off.
Miric: I would have gotten of Fiebings, except that no one sells it locally and I didn't feel like paying as much for shipping as for the bottle itself! But if I can find some, I'll try them next. I'd also love to see how you used on on those stocks. PM me if you have some pics!

I made two of those. Black and brown. Makes a great belt.

Very nice! I just finnished my last semester of my Police foundations diploma so I understand the need to be frugal, however I think for my next kilt belt i'll do something similar prolly in black though

As I recall Lowe's had the belt in black as well, though its been a while since I checked.

Another dye that might work is made by Kiwi (the same as the shoe polish) I know it comes in black and dark brown. I have only used the black and it was OK but not great for what I was doing.
