What do you mean by advice to get you comfortable? I'd say don't forget to wear socks. I hate wearing my boots without socks. Also, I have a couple shirts that chaff. Undershirts help with that.

I have one of the Leather union kilts. It holds up well if you have to drive in the car. Its also great for windy cool days.

I'll bite- Wear your kilt in public, and start doing it as soon as possible. If you think you'll "fit in" in Scotland because you're wearing a kilt, I have news for you. Kilt wearing is nearly as rare in Scotland as it is in the U.S.

So if you want to get comfortable wearing the kilt, forget about treating it like a costume. Ditch the puffy shirt and pick up a sensible, modern button up the front shirt, golf shirt, etc, and wear your kilt to dinner. Or to the grocery store. Or for a walk in the park. The only way to grow accustomed to wearing a kilt in stead of pants is to wear it. In public.

As you are starting out with leather then yes Scotland will help you get started.

I will wear my tartan and plain black kilts anywhere in the world as I like, however I only feel confortable in my cammo kilt when in Scotland!!!!!!!!!!!

Make sure you don't look stupid though, chunky socks; a good belt can make all the difference!

As for a shirt just go for whatever you like, a black T shirt or black long sleaved smart shirt I guess would look good.

Alright I think we have run around the question for long enough. If you want my honest opinion, I would not wear it here if I were you. Sorry.

No one is going to warn of the midges?
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…
Yes, I have squirrels in my brain…

I would advise that unless you are totally comfortable in your kilt that this is not the right place to try and find your feet so to speak. I have a Denim Union Kilt and when I wore it out a few weeks ago and I got a few comments over and above the usual "what’s the occasion?" and a few people not so sure about it said some things too I could only imagine a leather one would have caused quite a stir in the pub.
My recommendation would have to be that if you have a more "Traditional" (i.e. not leather) kilt to bring with you instead it might be a better idea sorry.
That said if you’re up in my neck of the woods ill buy you a drink for having the guts to buy one never mind wear it.

I've never been bothered by them they just seem to want to keep out of my way so I never really remember to warm people about them
