Everyone, there is also a petition that you can sign... For those who are wondering how "a yank" might help in an otherwise local matter, this could be a good way to express your support more tangibly.

It seems as if this anti-kilt thing is more pervasive that one might have thought: I was just reading about the Jacob lad's story on NationalPost.com and they list other incidents all across the USA, some of them actually ethnically derogatory:

    PASTE:
"The modern-day Braveheart isn’t the first to extend controversy over cultural expression to include a male’s right to wear a skirt and use a man purse. In Jackson, Mo., Nathan Warmack, 18, wore a kilt to his graduation ceremony. Before he hit the stage, principal Rick McClard told Mr. Warmack to find a pair of pants because he wasn’t “going to have students coming into the dance looking like clowns.” Other students of Scottish heritage, such as Matt McCarl, 17, of Stoneboro, Pa., and Miles Johnson in Jacksonville, Fla., were also asked to keep the tartan in the closet at a school ceremony.

UNPASTE ( The Post snuck in that link there, but fair enough I'll leave it in.)

It may be time to start organizing a Million Kilt March or something! I thought my 1960s high school was repressive but they would never have gone against someone's heritage apparel in this sort of way, not at the prom anyway.
