			Hello from Central VA

					Hey folks,
Been wearing Utilikilts for a several years, but through some genealogical research discovered that we are Campbells, and since I am a Woodbadge trained Boy Scout leader I am also authorized to wear the MacLaren (I have a Sport Kilt Ultimate) with my uniform. So I've got choices. Been thinking of buying a real honest to goodness wool Campbell. Any suggestions as to sources?

Welcome to the forum from another rural area kilted Virginian.Campbell will be an easy tartan to locate and is one of the least expensive ones. Depending on the amount you want to spend, any of our sponsors can provide an excellent kilt. If you want something more in a casual kilt, i.e. not a full 8 yard tank, you can't beat one of Matt Newsome's box pleated kilts from the Scottish Tartans museum in Franklin N.C. Rocky at USA Kilts has some nice traditional models. Personally, even though our sponsors in Scotland put out an excellent product, I try to avoid ordering from them because you can be subject to expensive import duties as well as fees from the shipping companies for filling out the paperwork and collecting the duties.
I have to add, Matt can also provide the tank, but it is not made by him as are the box pleats. My 9 yard heavyweight Macneil kilt came from him.

Being from Northern Virginia, let me welcome you to the forum.
Though as a MacDonald I'm not sure I really want to welcome any Campbell...
.... but I count so many as friends I can't ignore one more, especially a fellow Woodbadger (I used to be a Beaver).
I'll second the recommendation for one of Matt Newsome's 4 yard box pleats. Not only are they less expensive then the "traditional" 8 yard kilt, they are better balanced and lighter in overall weight, which can be very important on those night Virginia summer days. I have two, with another on order, and I wore one of them a week ago on a very hot and humid day without discomfort.

However, there are several excellent kilt makers who advertise (and post) on XMTS, so don't hesitate to check them out before making a decision. You can get a relatively inexpensive 5 yard casual kilt from Burnett's and Struth - and last I checked they had a Campbell tartan or two on the sale list.

Thanks for the welcomes, and thanks for the pointers as well. I have a couple of friends that have Matt's box pleated kilts, and I do like them. It is a plus that the museum is relatively close as well. I have a niece that lives in Knoxville so it will give me an excuse for a trip to visit the museum. Wow! 5 to 6 months is a long lead time though, but they appear to be worth the wait.
