    Very few of us could pull off a brooch of this size but here it is anyway.

    This silver Penannular brooch is from the British Museum.

    anything between about 3" and 4-1/2" is good - too small and it looks lost, too big and you'll list to port....

    Wonderful examples my friend! I absolutely love the style of your brooches-I assume the stag's head is from your family's arms? Perhaps personal? Or perhaps a connection to the Clan MacDhai? Get well my friend-I'd love to have that dram with you in Badenoch.
