Texas Kilt Pin
While waiting for my Texas Bluebonnet kilt to arrive from USA Kilts, I got the notion that I would like a "Texas" themed kilt pin for it. After looking through what I had around the house, mostly small lapel pins and tie-tacks, and looking around the interwebs a bit, it became pretty clear that if I wanted something Texas themed and like what is generally regarded as a 'traditional kilt pin', I'd have to get a little bit creative!
I had a little 3/4 inch State Seal lapel pin I'd picked up for 3 or 4 bucks at the Capital gift shop last year that I'd never taken out of it's little bag, and I ordered up an inexpensive ($5.50) plain kilt pin from Stillwater Kilts...

Putting them together was pretty straight-forward, I snipped the lapel pin's pin-back off with some side cutters and filed the area smooth, Then I marked and filed a flat area on the 'blade' of the kilt pin. The pin is plated brass and easy to work, I had the Dremel tool on hand but didn't need it. After getting the kilt pin how I wanted it, I roughed up the areas of both pieces to be joined a bit with a coarser file, and glued them up with a dab of JB-Weld, a durable "metal epoxy" .
Let the JB-Weld cure overnight, and a little polish (hey, I used the Dremel after all!) and I had a shiny new Texas Kilt Pin!

Sorry I didn't get "step by step" photos, but the work went so easy I didn't think to stop. The whole project took about 15-20 minutes alltogether. I'm looking forward to sporting it on my Bluebonnet Kilt!

I think it looks great and quite innovative as well. Might just have to "borrow" the concept.

Well done Zardoz, they say necessity is the mother of invention, and you have just proved it.

Very nice, and a fine addition to your Bluebonnet kilt.

Pretty cool! Gives me an excuse to bust out the Dremel!

Hmmmm.... very nice. Maybe I need a "Palmetto" kilt pin! Thanx for the idea.

I have seen reproduction TX and SC badges from the Civil War period that might do as a kilt pin. I know our own Piobear wears a repop GA state seal on his GA kilt, and I wear a repop Iowa badge on my kilt.
