Well.....I'd rather think of the cooking of the French, the literature of the English and the music of the Irish myself...not to mention the wine of the French and the ales and stouts of the English and the Irish...but that's just me.

You wouldn't care to elaborate would you?

    You might consider encouraging it...

Why not give the local (Scottish) media a heads-up? What's the harm in that?

I think I will [alert my local (Canadian) media]!

The spirit of the Declaration of Arbroath (6 April 1320) abides today, defiantly resisting any tyranny that would disarm, disperse and despoil proud people of just morals, determined to keep the means of protecting their families and way of life close at hand.

Whenever I get finished painting the house today (I'm on a break while some putty dries) and showered up, I'll probably don the Kilt and have a wee dram in toast to the spirit of defiance.

What eternal "war in Ireland" is being referred to? Is the planting of nail bombs to kill school children part of it? And I too would like to hear more about "the treachery of the English." Relatedly, I was recently threatened with an Xmarks court martial for making a little joke about the pirates seen at Scottish festivals and you can support me with your facts.

Well sir, to understand what the originator of the quote meant when he said,'and the war in Ireland", one must have an understanding of Irish republicanism. That is something you should investigate for yourself as there is not enough time or space for me to explain that philosophy to anyone. As for the pirates at a scottish festival, well I don't know what your speaking of. "The treachery of the English" is alluding to the British parliments historical attitude to justice in every other part of the empire except Ireland, or any of the celtic countries that it conquered. Again, some historical research would help here, and you could start with a look at the "penal laws" that were enacted in Ireland and Scotland.

While you are still on-line MacColl, would you care to answer post numbers 23 and 24?
