The concrete Ordnance Survey triangulation post made a good place to rest the camera and set the timer to take a group shot beside the cairn. There was a nest of wasps in the summit cairn. Altitude 2,045 feet or 622 metres above mean sea level.

From here there was a good view north towards Edinburgh and the Firth of Forth. The Salisbury Crags and Arthur's Seat in Holyrood Park can be seen in this shot.

    Lunch stop

Looking north-east there is a glimpse of part of Gladhouse reservoir and beyond is the town of Gorebridge.

Westwards are the rolling Southern Upland hills as far as the eye can see. The highest hill in the background is Culter Fell in Lanarkshire.

We descended by a different route, offering a view of Portmore Loch from another angle.

This route took us along the full length of the east shore of Portmore Loch.

It was Jill's birthday, so afterwards we went to Gorebridge for an Indian meal. Here with the birthday girl is her son Sam who joined us for the meal. Sam works in Marchbrae kilt shop on Edinburgh's Royal Mile and wears a kilt to work every day of his own choice.
    That's all folks!

    Great shots there Alex.

I especially like the distance shot towards Arthur's Seat and Salisbury Crags.

A very nice hike. Thanks for sharing.

But Alex, where was young Sam’s kilt during the hill climb?
    Nice pictures, anyway.
