Hi, Hobbzey, and welcome to X Marks from the bottom end of Africa.
It seems more likely that you have a Scottish connection than I do with my surname (my mother’s maternal grandfather was a Scot, though).
So I am sure you will find at least one Scottish tartan that would be appropriate for you to wear, if not half a dozen.
But remember also that there are a great many district tartans for North America (I presume you are from that part of the world).
There are national tartans for both Canada and the US, state and provincial tartans, and any number of tartans for smaller districts than that.
There is probably one that covers the place where you live – go for that one (or there may be more than one).
I am at a disadvantage here, because the only district tartan designed and registered for South Africa has no official status here. I have designed quite a few more, but none of them have been registered.
But most of all: enjoy wearing the kilt!
Regards,
Mike
