Ok... This thread is seeming just plan silly..And I've been following it from the start. These Golf courses say "no bare legs" Well that's that..... Kilt, shorts, speedos. Whatever... Like my good old Belfast dad used too say.." Wise up man!"

I just want to know if Mahatma Gandhi really did play golf in a loin cloth, as brought up thirty nine pages back.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…
Yes, I have squirrels in my brain…

I don't feel like it's my place to tell another man which fights are worth taking up and which are worth letting go. That's up to Jeff. But for what it's worth, I don't think that a) his original post was silly, b) the show of support from his comrades was silly, c) his tactics or manner of complaint were silly. The only thing that gets silly is when the same things get rehashed over and over ad nauseum and I don't think Jeff has done that at all here.
While I don't think it's necessary for us to keep discussing this until the point where Jeff either gets satisfaction or gives up on it, it's ultimately up to the rabble whether they keep contributing to this thread, thereby bumping it to the top of the forum each time they do, or whether they let it quiet down. Either way, anyone who feels it's silly is equally free to stop reading at any juncture and move on. Heaven knows, there are many threads on this site that are dozens of pages long but which I've barely glanced at because they neither concern nor interest me.
Personally, I am keeping up with this thread, no so much because there is that much useful info to be gleaned here, but more so because I'm genuinely curious to learn how things turn out in the end as I quietly cheer for Jeff to be successful.
As for you, Jeff, my only advice to you is to fight this as you see fit, but don't alienate your wife because of it either. Sounds like you got a good woman there and I'd hate to see an unkilted game of golf at a club you're unlikely to visit ever again in the future affect a relationship with someone you live with every day...
That's just my two bits.

I've never known Ghandi to wear a loincloth. Perhaps you are thinking of the long wrap called the dhoti? But it's hard to confuse the two.

First of all they do not say anywhere in their dress code "no bare legs"---instead they specifically ban shorts, denim, and sneakers, but no mention of bare legs. If the "no bare legs on men" was the intention of the dress code then they should have said so, or should change the dress code to match up with their much looser interpretation.
Second, Thank you CDNsushi for stepping up and saying what I think a lot of us have been thinking in a most poignant way, moreso than I guess I have said it so far. It is my fight, there might be others either interested in taking up the flag as well, or at least in following the story for purely interests sake.
Again thanks for your comments, ideas, and support. Now where did I leave those numbers for ESPN, Sports Illustrated, CNN, Golf Magazine, Golf Digest, and that list of UK newspapers?

Sorry, I was using the genaric term.
From the Random House Webster's Unabridged Dictionary, CD-Rom Version 3.0 (Random House Reference, 1999).
dhoti:
...
1. a long loincloth worn by many Hindu men in India.
2. the cotton fabric, sometimes patterned, of which the loincloth is made. ...

I couldn't find anything suggesting Mahatma Gandhi did play golf, and also thought it was an interesting mental image being created.

CDNSushi did a fine job.
And even if "bare legs" were mentioned, I'd have to say that knee length hose and a kilt to the knees are hardly bare legs.
But on another note, I would like to suggest that Jeff put this aside and take Wife out for a very nice dinner with fine wine, candles, and maybe even a little something on the side for a surprise--a pin, a ring, a rose! One single rose might speak volumes, and she sounds a fine woman who would like your attention.
We're in your corner, and so is she. Dancing might even work.

I thought "Dhoti" was what you called someone trying to play golf in a loincloth!!

Good ideas, Jim, but I am really NOT wasting a whole lot of time with the efforts I am making. I did take WIFE out for a nice dinner alone, with scotch whisky in place of wine (for both of us) but that was before the trip, and to celebrate her birthday, which I unfortunately had to miss because of the timing of the trip itself. May take a few years to live that one down, however. Must try again. She also got a nice new iPad as a pre-emptive present--she is not really big on jewelry, unless it is that 1 plus carat diamond that keeps cropping up in conversations from time to time. Am taking her to a Crosby, Stills & Nash concert with some friends in a couple weeks and may be able to sneak in a dinner before that. We shall see. Sorry, but I don't dance (well, I do, I just look like Elaine from Seinfeld) in public except with my 2 year old son at family gatherings.
