Anymore, I believe the term can be used applied to both.
I prefer the long belt with buckle. I wear sporran straps/belts exclusively when it comes to daywear.
I don't like the belt-chain combination and consequently don't like the strap with snaps or clips that attach to the sporran the same way. I don't like the idea of the metal clips rubbing against the fabric.
