Yes indeed what a difference! The pipe band of one Highland battalion only, the Black Watch.

Less than ten years ago at one Tattoo were the pipe bands of two Guards regiments and six Scottish regiments:

The Royal Scots Dragoon Guards
The Scots Guards
The Royal Scots
The Royal Highland Fusiliers
The King's Own Scottish Borderers
The Black Watch
The Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders
The Highlanders (Seaforths, Gordons, and Camerons)

plus several overseas pipe bands

The South African Irish Regiment
The Rats Of Tobruk (a civilian band I believe)
unidentified Canadian military pipe band
unidentified civilian pipe band
unidentified Irish pipe band
Gurkha pipe band

14 pipe bands in all that I can see from photos.
