Kilt Attire - Texas style

The boots are what would turn me off on that get-up... everything else I think would be doable.

I can't say much about mixing the styles except that regular cowboy boots looks out of place. A pair of lace-up ropers may work though. Work boots and military boots look good, so maybe they would work. I'd try it out myself but my days of chasing cows ended a long time ago(more money and better hours in other jobs) so my boots are of the red-wing variety now.

It's not as drastic, but look at your accessories and get slightly unconventional with those. Example: A friend is working on a sporran, strap and kilt pin for me that are all beaded in Lakota style. I also have a red shirt that's been beaded(a gift from one of my wife's students). I think it will work really well with the American Heritage kilt I ordered from Rocky last month, and I deem it entirely appropriate as my wife and I are both accepted members of the tribe.
Try finding a "westernized" sporran, pin, belt, etc. A western shirt may fit as well. Some western suit jackets are short and might work okay without modification.

As was said earlier...it's your kit. As long as you like it, go for it.

I've worn Justin lace-up ropers numerous times kilted,
with and without hose, to better effect with,
and my 'cowboy' hat from The Hat Store in Houston
has shaded my head at many festivals, but not together.
Hrmmm...
Never have or would consider pull-on boots with any kilt.
Guess I'm just a laced-up kinda guy.

Welcome, from Inverness-shire. I am a bit uneasy about mixing the two styles of dress, but your belt would certainly go with the kilt and with the weather that you chaps seem to have in Texas a wide brimmed hat is sensible. Its the cowboy boots that I am having trouble with. In truth it is your outfit and if you are happy with it, well, there is nothing else to say.

Jock is wise. Listen to Jock. Ditch the boots. I've seen it- they look bad. The vest, on the other hand- those look great with a kilt, as our boy Riverkilt has on many occasions shown. The belt, also perfect. The hat is just a sensible requirement and no one could begrudge you that.

I'm from Texas and have only worn my broard-brimmed Texas straw hat for utilitarian reasons - it was extremely hot with a blazing sun at the Texas Scottish Festival in Arlington, TX. I have never thought of wearing cowboy boots with a kilt.

Cowboy boots and kilts? Not really my thing, but have seen it at both the Scottish Fest in Arlington, and at the North Texas Irish Fest in Dallas. Here's a random picture of the combo. I'll let y'all be the judge if you want to pair the two items together.

OK - thanks Kiltboy for the visual! I'm rethinking my position to wear cowboy boots with my kilt. I'll stick with the traditional footwear but will vary the overall attire up slightly with a western style kiltbelt and vest.

pss. On another note, we met an organizing committee from the USA in Glasgow a few weeks back who are attempting to bring a Military Tattoo type celebration to Las Vegas. It should be fun if they can get it off the ground.

To "Texan-up" an kilt outfit, definately use a good-size belt buckle, and get creative with the kilt pin. There are many Texas-type objects and shapes which can be used.

I wear a cowboy hat with my kilts quite often - I've found that pull on boots do not look good with a kilt, but lace ups do just fine. Wide belts with a nice silver buckle complement my black denim UK nicely.

My daily attire is a business casual polo, UK Mocker, horse hair belt with sterling silver buckle set and brown lace up steel toe Ariat boots. (I only don the AHC on the weekends)

Yes, you can find a denim kilt, and no, UK is not the only ones making them.
