There are differences between officers based on how the got their commission, one of the academies (West Point or Annapolis) OCS, or ROTC. This difference is best described by example. Given the mission of taking a hill:

OCS officer - "Men, follow me up the hill!"
Academy officer - "Sgt, take the men up the hill"
ROTC officer - (Looks around frantically) "What hill?"
