Clan Chattan Band of Union 400th Anniversary Celebration
Some of us were fortunate to be able to attend back in 2009, an incredible experience. The Clan Chattan Association really went all out with a four-day celebration.
It's a short video (not mine), and omits much, but worth a visit.

Oh my yes! Scottish Highland hospitality reminded me a bit of Swedish hospitality, both personal yet formal. Being able to take my daughter and her boyfriend along too, making it a family event, was also nice. In retrospect, I could wish I could do it all over and take greater advantage of the opportunities (I missed the tour on the last day).
For those who are unfamiliar with Clan Chattan or the event, The Clan Chattan Condederation unites Inverness-shire Clans Mackintosh, Macpherson, Shaw, Macgillivray, Farquharson, MacPhail, Davidson, MacBean, MacQueen, MacIntyres in Badenoch, MacLeans of the North, MacThomas (mostly lands east of Loch Ness and up to the Moray Firth).
The first Band of Union was signed in 1609, though Clan Chattan is far older. They did not fair well in the Jacobite Rebellions, many died at Culloden or were imprisoned afterwards, though The Macintosh had also raised troops to his (Hanoverian) side (the Mackintoshes oddly raised troops for both sides). The sons of the Chiefs then joined the military, mostly on the Hanoverian side, with the exception of General Mackintosh, already living in Georgia, who fought for George Washington. The tale continues in all the smaller stories of those who remained behind and those who went abroad to seek a better life.
Culloden Battlefield and many of the Chiefs of Clan Chattan appear in the video.
